Camera manufacturers only seem to bother about Mac and Windows. I quite happily use mine with linux, so here's a place to gather some thoughts and links to essential software to do digital photography with Linux
Digikam∞, Album/ portfolio management & upload from camera intergrates tools such as raw conversion
Jhead∞ & CRWinfo∞ for looking at EXIF headers getting the exposure, f-stop lens date etc from the image (or harder RAW file)
dcraw∞ a RAW conversion, bad pixel management, Dave Coffin is a complete hero and has put a lot of work in to dcraw, Well done Dave!
Pawel Jochym's Plugin∞ to do it (RAW conversion)from within the gimp using dcraw with fancy extras
The Gimp∞ (GNU image manipulation program)... a viable Photoshop alternative on Linux & Windows
Monica∞ Monitor calibration gamma on Linux
